TELL US ABOUT THE DEFINING MOMENT WHEN YO DECIDED TO START YOUR BUSINESS ?
I decided to start my bag designing business fully in March, 2017. I had a little knowledge and all I needed was a machine. I got the machine and decided it was then or never. I had to step up.
HOW DID YOU KNOW YO HAD A VISIBLE BUSINESS IDEA ?
At first, I wasn't sure I had a chance at the business at all. When I made my first bag, it wasn't easy and it was very tasking. But through it all, I enjoyed the process of making something from nothing, putting pieces together, creating magic with leathers and materials. It was a really beautiful feeling. I got encouragement from family and friends who pushed me to go for it. They saw the potential in me and willed me to see it too. They made me realize that not only do I have a business idea, it was also very feasible
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN BUSINESS ?
The biggest challenge I have had so far is getting the right materials for my bags. Usually, I go for the best, I mean topnotch materials especially the leather, very strong and durable. The people I buy from usually have light leathers because that's what buyers demand from them, which will not work for me or my customers. Getting thick leathers is a challenge but I try hard to overcome it by having more than one supplier in different locations.
Another challenge is combining school with business. It's not easy at all. There are times when I've had to cancel or reject a work because of school work, tests and exams. This is really limiting my potentials..
DO YO HAVE ANY NON-NEGOTIABLE RULES IN BUSINESS ?
I don't really have rules but if there's one thing I abide by is never to use low quality materials for designing, ever. No matter the circumstances. I would rather go back and tell a customer I could not get the right material and return his/her money
My bag designing has just been on for like ten months and mostly filled with school work.
WHAT ARE THE DAILY HABITS THAT HAVE HELPED YOU SUCEEED ?
Habits that have helped me succeed? I would say getting Feedbacks from customers, whether positive or negative has really helped my drive
